Artist's Statement: I create oil paintings depicting subjects in idealistic arrangements, often using compositions containing materials, fixtures, and people from day to day life. Recently, my paintings have predominantly been theme based, depicting a variety of figures and still life subjects, based in realist compositions. Often I favor subjects depicting traditional American cultural values, such as honor, faithfulness, family, and freedom. Many of the themes that I paint feature day to day commonly used items, which have impacted our culture and have profound meaning in our society.
Important aspects of historical record, which tie my recollection and sense of awareness to those events, can be powerful and inspiring in my compositions. As simple as childhood idealism, or as complex as my portrayal of historical events of significance, I find viewing the world compelling, through often over looked aspects of importance.
Central to my creation of a painting are the dynamics of light and shadow and the relationship such contrasting values create. This relationship of contrasts is key to conveying the compositions story in my paintings. I desire to produce works in oil paint using techniques, which exemplify these dynamics and areas of interest for me as an artist.
Media: I work in a variety of mediums but my preference is oil.
Galleries: Southern Shore Art Association Gallery, Michigan City, Indiana.
